Lorenzo Trezzini (born in 1968), the descendant of the 1st St. Petersburg architect Domenico Trezzini, has joined the Jury of the 2nd Open Golden Trezzini Awards for Architecture and Design. The arrangers of the Awards shared this news at the press conference “The Golden Trezzini Awards and the State Museum of St. Petersburg History,” which took place on May 16 at the Peter and Paul Fortress.
Currently, Dr. Trezzini resides in Zurich and holds the position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Implantica (Switzerland) and is also part of different Boards of Directors within the financial industry.
Lorenzo Trezzini’s lineage goes back to the family of Maria Lucia Tomasina Trezzini (1698—1768), one of Domenico Trezzini’s daughters, who on March 14, 1719, married another architect from the renowned family, Carlo Giuseppe Trezzini (1697—1768) (Osip Petrovich Trezzini), who left an imprint on the architectural image of St. Petersburg, too.
“It is truly a great honor for me to carry the name Trezzini,” says Lorenzo Trezzini. “Domenico Trezzini follows in the tradition established a century earlier by the architect Domenico Fontana from Melide in Ticino and who created the Baroque Rome.” According to Lorenzo Trezzini, Domenico Trezzini’s vision for a coherent and harmonious urbanization for the city of St. Petersburg had a profound influence on subsequent generations of architects.
Dr. Trezzini is happy to join the Jury of the Awards named after his ancestor. “I am very much looking forward to exploring the heritage of Domenico Trezzini in innovative artworks as part of the «The Golden Trezzini Awards» and support future intelligent urban development and those who plan it,” he concludes.
At the press conference, they also announced that the arrangers and the General partner of the Awards, the State Museum of St. Petersburg History, intend to enlarge the Architectural Graphics Fund at the State Museum of St. Petersburg History, which has its center in the Peter and Paul Fortress, with modern projects of the Golden Trezzini Awards winners.
“The State Museum of St. Petersburg History has the richest collection of architectural graphic pieces,” says Sergey Kaluzhin, Deputy Research and Development Director at the State Museum of St. Petersburg History. “From drawings by renowned St. Petersburg architects like Francesco Rastrelli, Antonio Rinaldi, Giacomo Quarenghi, Andrey Voronikhin, Carlo Rossi, and Vladimir Stasov, to projects of Soviet architects, whose works determined the image of Leningrad in 1930—1980-ies. Among them, are Armen Baruchev, Eugeny Levinson, Nikolay Miturich, Alexander Nikolsky, Andrey Ol, Lev Tverskoy, Noah Trotsky, Igor Chayko, and many more. A significant share of the museum collection are projects that have been submitted to various architectural competitions held both in pre-revolutionary Petersburg and Soviet Leningrad. These materials are absolutely fascinating, and thank to them, we can mediate on how our city might have looked today.
We agreed that a competition named after the architect that created the Peter and Paul Fortress is a good reason to resume the tradition of adding modern competitive designs to our Museum’s Architectural Graphics Fund.”
Moreover, the State Museum of St. Petersburg has announced a new nomination for the Awards, The Best Museum Architectural Project, and announced an intent of holding 2 exhibition in the Peter and Paul Fortress in the 4th quarter of 2019: one for participants of The Best Museum Architectural Project nomination, and the other for the winners of the Golden Trezzini Awards.
