Hawraman is a mountainous region located within the Kurdistan of Iran. The mode of human habitation in this area has been adapted over millennia to the rough mountainous environment. Tiered steep-slope design and architecture are among the distinctive features of the local life of the Hawrami Kurdish people. Hawraman region is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as «Cultural Landscape of Hawraman». In these areas, due to the presence of tourists from all over the world and the need to present and display local culture and arts, places such as museums, galleries and libraries should be designed and built.
In architecture form, it was inspired by unique cultural elements of the region including traditional brown felt jackets with pointed shoulders called Kolabal, traditional textile weaving, Kurdish dance and Fritillaria kurdica, local wildflower. The main local material for build is stone, used in Şivan Gallery & Library. it is a fusion of tradition and modernity.
