Project
Larisa Gladina Library in Apatity — reconstruction
Category
Best Implemented Reconstruction Project
About the project (provided by the applicant)
The key sources of inspiration in this project were the modernist architecture and rich history of the place. First of all, the designers concentrated on recovery of the initial architectural features (like the floating stairs) and materials (like sandstone, marble, and parquet flooring).
First of all, the engineering utilities and the ventilation system were upgraded. The original layout was a good one, so key functional areas were left in place, whereas the service rooms were reduced. Natural light from high windows floods the rooms, and restored original glazing places spots of sunlight all over the floors and the walls.
