About the project (provided by the applicant)
The building's access and entrance have been redesigned to create an appropriate spatial hierarchy by dividing the courtyard into various sections with semi-enclosed and open spaces. The main challenge was the significant height difference of 1.2 meters between the building and the street, which was addressed by dividing the steps across different levels. This design makes the courtyard wall appear tall from the street but proportionate from within, reminiscent of traditional houses in Yazd. Also, brick was used in this project, which is one of the main materials in Yazd houses due to the climate of the city.
The project's objectives, which included utilizing corner and underused spaces, defining appropriate spaces for suitable functions, creating spatial hierarchies to evoke different atmospheres, establishing a secondary courtyard to define a public entrance, and implementing height codes to visually reduce the building's plinth height, were successfully achieved.
