Project
Coffee Shop at Urban Gas Station

Category
Best Project of Public Building or Facility

About the project (provided by the applicant)
Due to the role of intersections in cities and their importance in creating memories and city legibility, special attention must be paid in intersections’ design. Toronto’s gas stations mostly located at intersections have been considered as places that have been overlooked. The proposed small coffee shop in gas stations located at intersections provides drinks and snacks for users who benefit more in a one-step-shop destination and also serves as a landmark. It is mainly formed by modular expansion of spaces around a fixed core where an elevator, service lift, and toilets are located around the stairs. Other spaces (seating area) are spread in four zones in accordance with available spaces in flexible areas. These zones have a minimum surface area added in different directions so the width and form of the building vary. The transition to the next level occurs after passing through four usable surfaces, and the final configuration depends on the specific location of the building.
