About the project (provided by the applicant)
The 2.25-meter monument to blind air raid wardens features a bust of a blind soldier wearing a headset and steel helmet, deeply focused as he listens to the chaotic noise around him, straining to catch the faint rumble of an enemy bomber in the distance. Encircling his head are intricate sound-collecting horns. The bust rests on a bronze cube, with raised relief inscriptions: «TO THE BLIND WARDENS» on the front and «TO THE BLIND DEFENDERS OF THE SKY OF BESIEGED LENINGRAD» on the back. The cube itself, styled to resemble riveted iron sheets, evokes the firearms of the 1930s and 1940s. The monument is minimalistic yet powerful in its spatial design.
