Teriberka, a remote village in the Murmansk region on the shores of the Barents Sea, stands at the edge of the world, with only the ocean and the North Pole lying beyond.
The museum, located here, offers visitors an entirely different life experience. Its concept is built around the contrast between the worlds of humans and whales, with its vast, whale-scale spaces prompting reflection on nature and the limits of human dominance.
The museum seamlessly blends with the surrounding landscape, emerging from the mountains and flowing back toward the sea – a narrative often found in northern myths and whale legends.
The permanent exhibition takes visitors on a journey from the ocean floor to the surface and back to reality. The trapezoidal form, frosted glass, and sloping floors create an illusion of immersing into the depths of the sea. Skeletons of marine creatures and schools of fish envelop the visitor, evoking the feeling of swimming alongside whales.
In addition to the museum, the complex comprises a scientific center dedicated to the study of local fauna, a mountain eco-park trail, and a hotel.
