Project:
Transfiguration of Christ Cathedral in Murmansk
Category:
Best Project of Building or Facility by Student
About the project (provided by the applicant):
The key objective of this proposal is design of a state-of-the-art cathedral in compliance with functional and esthetical preferences of people living in the 21st century.
The Order of Courage was used as a layout basis — it is cross-shaped, which is quite appropriate for a church building. It is a tribute to the heroic deeds of the citizens and defenders of Murmansk that took place during the Great Patriotic War. Elongated along the vertical axis, the Cathedral visually repeats the Kola Bay and the city harbor. Moreover, it refers to the tent-like architecture of the Russian North.
A roofed car port with an independent entrance was designed for meeting the Bishop.
