Riga Art Museum Expansion Project

About the project
Riga in white, Daugava in red… This is a project for the Riga Art Museum expansion.
The purpose of the project is to extend the Art Museum’s functionality, communicativeness and the education capacity.

The concept of the project is based on connecting semantics of Riga and Daugava with the existing museum building and the adjoining park.
A one-storeyed block of the new gallery will take some part of the park. This gallery will comprise a temporary exhibition venue, conference halls, an education center and some technical premises. The roofing of the gallery will form the top level of the park.

The streaming structure of the gallery is to symbolize the Daugava River. Wave-looking lamps enhance this symbolism even further. The 4-storeyed block will comprise a modern art exposition venue, an office section, and a data center. A zigzagged shape of the building refers both to Riga’s roofs and a boat upside down.

The existing building will house the classic exposition, restoration workshops, and technical premises.
