About the project
The key challenge of the project was to organically fit the new building into the site, historically significant for both the city of Brest and for those having respect to the Great Patriotic War events. The site is 500 meters away from the entrance to the Brest Fortress, multilevel with a remaining wallgan (an earth mound fortification), where during the war they installed cannons to fight off the threat from the river. Besides the wallgan, the site has two powder warehouses, which will be used as entrances to the hotel. The hotel will be located close to the river and connected to the warehouses by an underground space, designed under the earth mound. The underground premises will include lobby zones, a restaurant with a kitchen, a conference hall, all of them lit by skylights, opening to the surface of the earth mound.
