Project
Landscaping and Hardscaping at Cultural Heritage Site – Aviator’s House
Nomination
Best Landscaping Project
About the project
The site is the restored and reconstructed two-storeyed mansion situated at the intersection of the Koltushi Highway and the “Road of Life”. It was built in 1774, and between 1941 and 1944 was used to accommodate aviators who defended Leningrad. Today, the building houses a museum. Its exhibits bring the visitors back in time enabling them to witness those tragic days and everyday life of the city’s defenders. The entrance zone is designed to remind spread wings. The ornate fencing around the museum site features aircraft elements such as ailerons, screws, and cockpits. The central highlight is a dynamic geoconstructivism-style sculpture depicting the whole regiment of the heroes who took part in the Battle for Leningrad. The museum is accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.
