NUS School of Computing

Best Project of Public Building or Facility

About the project
The National University of Singapore School of Computing is distributed vertically, hosting the higher levels spaces dedicated to research clusters and classroom learning, while lower levels are designed to accommodate the buzz of university life.
Carefully articulated to facilitate access to the surrounding buildings and walkways, the design also seeks to immerse itself in abundant landscapes, eschewing the image of high-end technology as somehow incompatible with nature, and encouraging a stronger connection between these two, universally critical and increasingly inter-dependant life spheres.
The ‘social deck’ mediates between the water landscape, on which the school hovers, and serves as a pause, before one progresses to the link way above. The planned greenway will not only find itself as gesture for sustainable living, but to be fully embedded into the water landscapes it sits along, providing a beautiful view of the surrounds.
