Best Implemented Interior Design Project Using Works of Art
About the project
This flat was designed as a utopian space for a bachelor who loves the bare beauty of
minimalist lines. Breaking from convention, I removed unnecessary internal walls and doors, reconfigured the functional spaces, expressing them as a series of cuboid cabinetry with a unified design language. The home’s existing bomb shelter was fashioned into a Lego gallery. I pared down the lighting to look like visual art using a 32mm diameter round blue metal tube that goes from wall to wall. The only other colour here was selected to make a statement; it is the fluorescent orange of the ’dot’ on the wall of the living room, actually a coin bank I designed for feng shui reasons. Every item was carefully chosen for its strong visual value. The centerpiece of the home is the lounge chair Eugene for e15. The rest of the items were chosen to complement one another. With their graphic utilitarian shapes, each of them has their own character, purpose and importance among Alex's family of items.
