1981—1984 Studies at Lincoln College at Oxford. Supervisor of my thesis: Sir John Boardman: Doctor of Philosophy. Subject of the thesis: Herakles in Greek Art from about 450 to about 300 B.C.

2012—2015 President of the organisation of museums and castles Euregio Lake of Constance

In the various museums in which Rainer Vollkommer worked, he organized over 200 exhibitions in the fields of archeology, history, art, culture, society, the environment, nature, mathematics, etc., including many exhibitions that were created by himself and sent on a journey and self-produced block-buster exhibitions emerged such as “1712 – The Becoming of a Country”, “Math Love”, “Marilyn — The Strong Monroe”, “The Myth of the Olympic Games”, “Limitless – Globalization and Identity”, “Fascination Pyramids”, “Elegance and enjoyment — everyday life, wisdom and art in Chinese culture”, “1719 300 years of Liechtenstein”.
Exhibitions were shown in cooperation with the following countries: Belarus, Bulgaria, China, Germany, France, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Italy, Kazakhstan, Croatia, Latvia, Austria, Romania, Russia, Switzerland, Singapore, the Vatican. Loans from 20-40 countries were shown at some other exhibitions. Furthermore, exhibitions have been organized in Belarus, Bulgaria, China, Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy, Croatia, Netherlands, Austria, Romania, Russia, Switzerland, Singapore. A focus in recent years has been exhibitions with Eastern European and Asian countries, especially Russia and China, with which there is lively contact.
Rainer Vollkommer wrote six books, published over 50 books / catalogs / lexica, wrote about 50 larger articles in scientific journals and over 1000 key words in various lexica. Scientific advice was given for Brockhaus Archeology, Geo Subject Dictionary Archeology, ADAC Millions of Years Book, World History in 20 Volumes (Bertelsmann). With a break between 2001 and 2006, Rainer Vollkommer has been teaching Classical Archeology at different universities since 1985 (Freiburg i. Br., Friborg / Switzerland, Leipzig, Hamburg, Dresden).
