About the project
In renovating their 1967 Tony Grunsfeld-designed house, the goal was to preserve the original character while making updates so that the house can support a contemporary lifestyle. Outside, the exterior and the landscape remained unchanged. Inside, the carpet and curtains in the bedrooms were removed. In place of the carpet, a polished concrete surface was poured. In place of the heavy drapes, blackout roller shades were added. In the kitchen, a set of Gaggenau appliances that fit the character of the house were selected. In the bathrooms, black marble was chosen that enhanced the contrast between darker private interior spaces and the other luminous spaces. The gallery-like nature of the house allowed the pieces of furniture and the couple’s collection of artworks to take on a striking presence. The inspiration for the living room came from Middle Eastern interiors that rely on low seating, carpets, and pillows to form a casual space in which people can lounge.

Francisco Gonzalez Pulido, Founder / CEO, FGP Atelier and Gergana Gonzalez Pulido, Co-Founder / COO / Design Director Interiors, FGP Atelier.
Born in Mexico City in 1970, Francisco González Pulido graduated from Monterrey Tec in 1991 and Harvard Graduate School of Design in 1998. In 2000, González Pulido joined JAHN, was made partner in 2008, and named president of the company in 2012. He founded FGP Atelier in 2017. His designs encompass a wide range of buildings, from pavilions and boutique spaces to stadiums and airports, from speculative explorations to science facilities and skyscrapers across four continents.
