About the project
The interior of this 16th century villa has been renovated keeping in mind the original partition, in terms of space and materials. The piano nobile has been finished with local, handcrafted cotto tiles, the walls coated with lime plaster, while all the secondary rooms, corridors and staircases, were restored but left to their original simplicity, with exposed bricks on the walls. The same criterion was used to design and create the custom furnitures: the elegance of brass and marble for piano nobile, and the simplicity of corten steel for the rest of the villa, mixed together with the warmth off reclaimed wood, taken from the former roof, to create functional, contemporary pieces of furniture. All the ancient features like fireplaces, niches, frescoes, were restored and modern designers furniture added to this country villa. The most functional part of the bathrooms have been hidden into simple volumes, lowering the ceiling height and making them cozier.

Applicant and author of the project
Filippo Gastone Scheggi is an Italian architect, living in Tuscany and operating throughout Italy. He graduated at university «La Sapienza», in Rome, with a master degree in restoration. Although Filippo Gastone mainly works on interior design projects and renovations for private estates, agriturismos and B&B, restaurant and stores; he has also worked as technical director on many restoration projects in Vatican, Rome, and other like the Cathedral of Milan.
