Vetter Mountain Viewing Platforms

About the project
These cantilevered lookout platforms explore the idea of guiding the experience of the user. Users enter into a central lobby from which they can choose to go to three separately curated viewing experiences. There is a platform that is designed to guide the view downward, a central platform designed for a contemplative experience and a platform that juts out past the others and rises upward, guiding the view of the user upward. The precedent studies of the Richard Rogers' Drawing Gallery and Apartment in Minami-Azabu were studied to gain insight into how to approach these unique platforms in terms of structure and enclosure. The central platform is fully enclosed and protected from the mountain elements while those flanking it are open to them. Consideration was taken into how the steel framing would be composed and that can be seen in the detailed wall section. The Vetter Mountain Viewing Platforms seeks to be a public space where visitors can seek solace and gain inspiration.
