About the project
Post-war period in Sri Lanka healed the socio-cultural wound gradually and once again it was injured from the deadly blasts occurred in Negombo on April 21, 2019 by separating people and creating conflicts. Socio-ethnic tension can address architecturally by building a cultural forum where has the opportunity of promoting certain activities related to different communities and creating certain special dialogues. Reinterpretation of Sri Lankan culture by developing a mixed festive heritage with live activities, music, food, patterns, art and craft can engage all ethnic and religious groups into one.The architecture of this building allowed wide possibilities of contacts with culture and nature.
Forum Open Air Theatre has scattered volumes and internal and external circulations throughout site. Usage of locally available materials, green and cultural elements and water bodies as a part of the design generated a people and site oriented tropical architectural public space.
