Project
Vladimir Mayakovsky Central Public Library – Rearrangement for modern use
Category
Best Implemented Restoration / Reconstruction Project
About the project
The Library is located in the former courtyard of the Holy Trinity and St. Sergius Monastery. The building was closed for major restoration and reconstruction in 2018 and reopened in August 2021. The foundation was reinforced, roof primary structures were replaced, ancient brickwork was repaired, and engineering utilities were totally changed. The rearrangement resulted in a new layout – new rooms, usable staircases and a wheelchair hoist appeared in the building. The front and back facades were restored along with the library interiors. Doors, windows and architectural hardware were recreated, including the sandstone tiling, the central staircase and its cast-iron fencing.
