Russian Seasons: Forest Building
Category
Best Implemented Restoration / Reconstruction Project
About the project
Russian Seasons is a project involving restoration of two buildings on the Sestroretsk Resort premises and reconstruction of its ruined Forest Building. Designed and built in 1900 by architect Siegfried Levy, it was in use until the 1980s. During the period of desolation, which followed next, the wooden house burned down and had to be disassembled.
Between 2017 and 2020, the building was reconstructed in accordance with its historical design, based on old photos and drawings, but this time using modern materials. For example, it has no wooden parts but features a rusticated stucco facade. The project, which seamlessly fits the building into the landscape, also solves the difficult task of preserving nature.
