Project
Memorial to Defenders of Sevastopol 1941—1942: design concept

Best Architectural Design for Museum
About the project
The project comprises a building with a public space – functional, beautiful and with an express message. Architectural appearance of the building presents waves of attacking sailors, standing as unassailable walls. Olive gardens on the roof have special meaning, too — olive trees are long-livers, referring to commemoration, and their fruit symbolizes bravery of Sevastopol’s defenders that wasn’t in vain. The memorial museum is more of a landscape than a building, which adds to its sustainability and demonstrates respect to nature. Another reason for making the facility horizontal and green is its proximity to the Sailor and Soldier Monument currently implemented by Coop Himmelb (l) au.
