About the project
A 2.5 meters high Fyodor Dostoevsky memorial was installed in Kaliningrad to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the writer’s birthday. Sculptor Andrey Slepkov presented the author wearing an ulster and holding something carefully in his hands – it is a small bird, and the viewers can’t help but remember the last chapter of his Brothers Karamazov. In it, a boy on his deathbed asks to bring bread crumbs to his grave so that he won’t be alone.
The memorial is a fine allegory of the gentle Russian soul that the writer knew oh so well.
