Project
Shahrazad’s Arbor in Repin’s Penates – repair and restoration
Category
Best Implemented Restoration / Reconstruction Project
About the project
This arbor was built in 1909 through 1913 while Ilya Repin was still alive – a perfect blend of old Russian art and Romanticism. Alas, all the buildings within the manor were gone during the Great Patriotic War. The Shakrazad’s Arbor was restored in 1960, but by 2020 it literally was in critical condition. To prevent its wreckage, this listed facility was reconstructed in 2021—2022, including fixation, marking and dismounting of certain elements, renovation of wooden pieces that were still good, renovation of the stone stairs, and consequent assembly of the structures and details based on iconographic materials.
After the works were completed, the facility was open for the public on August 5, 2022.
