Project
Ceramic facade panels of the Church of the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Matveevskoye
Category
Best Implemented Façade or Interior Project Using Ceramics
About the project
The design of ceramic tiles and columns of the Church of the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Matveevskoye is based on that of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Ferapontovo. The terracotta panels feature floral ornaments, which were reconstructed from drawings of S. Podyapolsky, as well as photographic materials and archival descriptions. The tiles were made from high fire clay without glazing, as were the terracotta panels of the late 15th century. Decorative columns were made using the pottery method strictly following the proportions and patterns of the original ornaments.
