The organizers of one of the most high-profile architectural competitions – the Golden Trezzini Awards – has opened application for those seeking to obtain the precious figurines. The Awarding Gala Ceremony is scheduled for November 2023 in the Hermitage Theatre.
The international Golden Trezzini Awards have been held in St. Petersburg since 2018 under the auspices of the Worldwide St. Petersburg Club with the support of the Embassy of Switzerland in Russia, the Russian Architects Union, a number of committees controlled by the St. Petersburg Government, as well as some other Russian and international agencies.
The motto of the Awards is “Architecture as Art”. The main objective of the Awards is to add the most artistically valuable architecture, designer, scenography, renovation, and museology projects to museum collections. The works by the winners are added to the collection of Museum of St. Petersburg History and are presented during the annual exhibition.
The capital prize at the Awards is the gilded figurine of the Russian architect of Swiss origin Domenico Trezzini (1670 – 1734), the 1st architect of St. Petersburg. The Honorary Chairman of the International Council of the Golden Trezzini Awards is Mikhail Piotrovsky, Chairman of the Board of the Worldwide St. Petersburg Club and Director of the State Hermitage. The Jury comprises 200+ experts from 32 countries from across the globe.
“The mission of the Awards is promotion of architectural diplomacy, which today acts as people’s diplomacy as it connects architects from all over the world,’ outlined Pavel Chernyakov, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the Golden Trezzini Awards. ‘Naturally, it would be impossible without our International Council, which included representatives of the diplomatic corps of different countries. Last year, the Council was extended to include Consuls General of Azerbaijan and Israel, and this year it was joined by Nazih El Naggary, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Russian Federation. We expect new projects from Egypt (especially the museum-related ones) to be nominated to the 2023 Golden Trezzini and to be among its winners.
During the 6th Golden Trezzini, there will be 18 major and 3 special categories for the participants to win, including the Premio del Pubblico (People's Choice), its winner decided by the visitors of the Awards web-site. Nominees from all over the world are invited: developers and planners, architects and renovators, designers and interior decorators, stage artists, as well as students of architecture schools and departments.
For the third time in a row, the winner of a special prize will be selected – Genius Petropolis Medal, named after Valentina Orlova (1946—2021), the 1st Chairlady of the Board of the Worldwide St. Petersburg Club. This medal will be presented to an architectural or restoration project that complies best with the spirit and traditions of St. Petersburg.
Participation in the Awards is free of charge. Competitors (both private and legal entities) are invited to submit their entries from February 15 through September 15, 2023.
An important provision is that the projects are to be designed (or implemented – depending on the nomination type) within the period of January 1, 2021, through September 15, 2023. As in the prior years, the Jury voting will include two stages. The finalists will be shortlisted by the Qualification Committee, and the winners – by the International Jury. The winners will be announced in the State Hermitage on November 15, 2023.
During five years of the Awards, 3,300+ projects were submitted. In 2022, the Golden Trezzini Awards was participated by 1,123 nominees from 74 countries.
