Dental clinic in the capital of Rwanda is proposed for international architectural competition

Rwanda Smile Centre is a Golden Trezzini nominee in “Best Project of Public Building or Facility” category.

The Rwanda Smile Centre is a dental clinic and training facility for a Christian ministry team in Rwanda. The project is designed and proposed for the Golden Trezzini Awards by Beau Avedissian, founding director of HyperArchitects. The architect has won the Cosentino Architectural competition in 2017, the FACS prize in 2018 and won 'The Best of Design Awards 2019' in the 'Unbuilt Interiors Category' by Architect's Newspaper. Beau has worked on multiple projects from small scale dwellings to large scale healthcare developments.

Rwanda currently has only 48 dentists in a country with a population of almost 12 million people. This project opens the opportunity for more dentists to be trained to serve the population and provide a clinic for people to be educated and treated.

The projects sits on a steep 36 m drop. We tackled this issue by stacking the dental and Christian ministry programs. This aims to harmonise, synthesis and to create efficient working spaces.

The form, the warm colour palette and the volcanic rock and wood material choices highlight the local Rwanda vernacular. With the implementation of fine marbles, polished brass and a balanced use of stones, we aim to create a high end, world-class building.

Entries for 2020 Golden Trezzini Awards were closed on October 15, 2020. Participation is free of charge.

The Golden Trezzini website users are welcome to vote for their preferred projects via Facebook, giving them a chance to win Premio del Pubblico Award. 500+ projects from 40+ countries are approved for participation at the moment.

The International Golden Trezzini Awards for Architecture and Design are named after Domenico Trezzini (1670—1734), the first architect of St. Petersburg and the founder of Petrine Baroque. The Awards have been held since 2018. The motto of the Awards is “Architecture as Art.” The Awards are intended to acknowledge and promote architectural and designer projects that amount to works of art.

The Honorary Chairman of the International Council of the Awards is Mikhail Piotrovsky, General Director of the State Hermitage, St. Petersburg.
