On September 4, 2024, the grand opening of the «Architecture as Art» exhibition took place in the conference hall of the State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg at the Peter and Paul Fortress. This annual exhibition showcases the works of the laureates of the International Golden Trezzini Awards for Architecture and Design. This year's exhibition features the results of the 6th season of the awards, which concluded last year. The event was organized by the Worldwide St Petersburg Club, the Golden Trezzini Awards organizing committee, and the State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg.
«The annual architecture and design awards, named after the first architect of St. Petersburg, Domenico Trezzini, attracted a record number of nominees in 2023 — 1,229 submissions from 72 countries,» noted the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Pavel Chernyakov, at the opening ceremony. «The exhibition features 71 projects, including works from the finalists and 22 winning projects from 10 countries, including Belgium, Brazil, India, Italy, China, Russia, the USA, Taiwan, Tanzania, and Finland.»
Speakers at the opening included Andrey Ermakov, head of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation’s North-Western Federal District office, Vladimir Grigoriev, president of the St. Petersburg Union of Architects and first deputy general director of the State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg, and others.
The opening ceremony concluded with a short musical performance. Vitaly Novikov, a laureate of national and international competitions, performed Figaro’s aria from the opera The Barber of Seville and Tomsky’s song from the opera The Queen of Spades. The young baritone's performance, organized with the support of the awards’ partner, BrandLink Group, was warmly received by the audience, who appreciated his high level of skill, mastery, and charisma. Pavel Temateu, head of BrandLink Group, greeted the attendees and introduced the artist.
After the official part, guests were invited to the Gosudarev Bastion (the Sovereign Bastion) to view the projects selected by experts from 33 countries for the museum's collection. The exhibition includes projects of buildings, structures, interiors, as well as works in the fields of restoration, set and exhibition design, urban sculpture, and architectural ceramics. Special attention was drawn to the projects of architecture students.
Among the honored guests at the opening were Béatrice Latteier, Consul General of Switzerland in St. Petersburg, Jean-Christophe Thiabaud, Consul General of France in St. Petersburg, Ran Gidor, Consul General of Israel in St. Petersburg, and Sebastian Fitzlyon, Honorary Consul of Australia in St. Petersburg.
The exhibition will be open until September 17, 2024, at the Gosudarev Bastion in the Peter and Paul Fortress in St Petersburg, Russia. The museum is open daily except Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. (Tuesdays until 6:00 p.m.). Phone: +7 (812) 230-64-31.
