On March 13, the bulthaup Design Gallery in St Petersburg hosted a professional gathering for architects and designers, organized jointly by the Organizing Committee of the Golden Trezzini International Awards and GLASSCON, a partner of the awards’ seventh season held last year.

The event was titled The Art of Transparency: The History, Present, and Future of Glass in Architecture and Design. The aesthetics and functionality of glass, its historical legacy, the works of contemporary masters, and a shared passion for glass were the main themes of the presentations.

Before the business program began, the attendees were welcomed by Pavel Chernyakov, Chairman of the Golden Trezzini Awards Organizing Committee; Yuri Mozheyko, Commercial Director and owner of GLASSCON; and Olga Perlina, Managing Partner of the bulthaup Design Gallery.

The thematic part of the event opened with a lecture by art historian, collector, and frontman of the falconnier.ru project, Nikita Andreev, titled Architectural Glass at the Turn of the 19th and 20th Centuries. The speaker discussed the key technical achievements of glassmakers from over a century ago and showcased successful examples of glass elements in architecture. Moreover, he brought along historical glass artifacts, inviting the audience to hold and examine them firsthand—visibly demonstrating that glass is not just about beauty and fragility but also about practicality and durability.

Tamara Kovaleva, the founder of NWGlass-lab and co-organizer of the falconnier.ru project, bridged the historical topic to the present with her talk, Glass in Contemporary Architecture and Interior Design: Needs and Solutions. She introduced the audience to renowned artists and studios from around the world who have worked with glass in recent decades. Her presentation featured landmark works such as Dale Chihuly’s 11-meter chandelier at the Victoria and Albert Museum and Danny Lane’s Borealis sculpture at the General Motors headquarters in Detroit.

Anastasia Berezkina, CEO and founder of the BOGEMA glass studio, gave a presentation titled Reflections of Style: Glass and Mirrors in Interior Design. She showcased numerous examples, emphasizing that today’s Russian glass artisans have extensive technical capabilities, enabling them to bring even the boldest designer visions to life.

The business program concluded with a presentation by Yuri Mozheyko, Commercial Director and owner of GLASSCON, titled Modern Glass Structures in Historic Interiors. He shared striking case studies demonstrating how glass installations can breathe new life into historic, often underutilized spaces while preserving their authenticity.

The event was moderated by Maria Borisova, Deputy Chair of the Golden Trezzini Awards Organizing Committee.

The organizers extend their gratitude to GLASSCON for supporting the Golden Trezzini Awards and this special event, and to the bulthaup Design Gallery for its unwavering hospitality and professionalism!
