The submission period for the 9th season of the Golden Trezzini Awards, the international architecture and design prize, closed yesterday. This year, 1,520 projects from 48 countries were submitted — a new record in the Awards' history. According to the organizers, the largest numbers of entries came from Russia, Iran, Uzbekistan, India, and Brazil.

The projects will now be reviewed by the Qualification Committee. Experts will determine the finalists across 24 categories, with the shortlist to be announced on October 20. The projects will then be evaluated by the International Jury. Winners of the ninth season will be announced on November 20 at an official ceremony at the State Hermitage Museum.

From now until November 3, public voting is open on the Awards' official website: visitors can vote for their favorite projects among all accepted nominees. The outcome of the public vote is independent of the jury’s decisions. The winner of the People's Choice Award will be honored alongside the winners of the principal categories.

"It is not just about the scale of the campaign — what matters far more is what lies behind the numbers. We are deeply grateful to all the contenders who submitted their projects: it is your energy and craftsmanship that made this new record possible. The projects submitted this season demonstrate just how diverse contemporary architecture can be: bold new structures sit alongside sensitive engagements with architectural heritage, daring experiments alongside meticulous restorations. It is this diversity that keeps global professional dialogue alive. Architecture accomplishes what politics rarely can: bringing together instead of keeping apart. Each season of the Awards proves that architects and designers have far more that unites them than divides their countries," said Pavel Chernyakov, Chairman of the Golden Trezzini Awards Organizing Committee.

Winners will be awarded the competition's premier trophy — a gilded porcelain statuette of Domenico Trezzini. The finest projects will join the collection of the State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg. Works by both winners and finalists will also be showcased in the annual exhibition at the Peter and Paul Fortress.

Submissions for the tenth, anniversary season of the Golden Trezzini Awards will open in February 2027.

About the Awards

The International Golden Trezzini Awards for Architecture and Design were established in St. Petersburg in 2018 under the auspices of the Worldwide St. Petersburg Club. The Awards are named in honor of Domenico Trezzini (1670–1734), the first architect of St. Petersburg. The motto of the Awards is "Architecture as Art."

The main prize is a gilded porcelain statuette of Domenico Trezzini, handcrafted by the artisans of the Imperial Porcelain Manufactory.

The Golden Trezzini Awards is the only architecture and design competition in the world whose winning projects are incorporated into a state museum collection and awarded official museum-exhibit status.

The Awards' International Council is chaired by Mikhail Piotrovsky, President of the Worldwide St. Petersburg Club and General Director of the State Hermitage Museum. The Council and Jury comprise more than 200 experts from 35 countries. Throughout the history of the Awards, more than 8,000 entries from 117 countries have been submitted for the Golden Trezzini statuette.
