Project
Bacaro Ai Marmi Bar
Nomination
Best Project of Public Space
About the project
The concept of the Bacaro Ai Marmi Bar was inspired by typical Venetian taverns. The word «bacaro» is derived from the name of Bacchus, the Roman God of Wine. The bar offers a wide selection of wines and small cichéti snacks. In accordance with tradition, Bacaro has only a few seats, whereas most of the visitors sit or stand behind the long bar counter and bar tables.
“Ai Marmi” means “at the marble” in Italian – this is what locals usually called eateries located near marble ruins – remnants of the ancient civilization.
The bar occupies a neoclassical building with characteristic arched shop windows on the ground floor. The interior design uses marble slab in combination with metal bronze-like elements. The bar’s layout is characteristic of neoclassicism – simple and almost symmetrical, with a central bar counter. The main accent of the interior is a marble bas-relief panel, which looks as if it was found in the ruins of an ancient Roman temple.
