Project
Museum of the Great Patriotic War and Siege

Nomination
Best Museum Architectural Design

About the project
The museum is designed at Pulkovo Heights. The key mission was to create a remarkable image reflecting the dramatic nature of war. Emotional load is enhanced thanks to a massive structure finished with rough concrete, which provides an image of stone sky, of the impending threat. The rood is cut through with a breakage, which shapes the entrance to the museum. Rays of light penetrate through narrow skylights.

In front of the museum, the memorial “872 Days of Siege” is arranged, featuring 872 lighted elements with pieces of literary works, telling about lives and heroism of Leningraders. The bridge leading to the museum divides the memorial into two parts – 498 days before the breach, and 374 days after the bridge and before complete relief.

The exhibition space of the museum comprises a multimedia panorama of the defense of Leningrad, three diorama venues, as well as a model of Leningrad in the times of the Siege.

Location
St. Petersburg, Pulkovskoye Highway.
