The Contemporary Fish Market is an urban infill project located within one of Baghdad's historic commercial districts, where traditional markets, small businesses, and everyday public life have shaped the identity of the neighborhood for generations. Rather than introducing a singular architectural object, the project seeks to regenerate an underutilized urban site by reconnecting fragmented public spaces, strengthening local commerce, and creating a contemporary civic destination rooted in the cultural memory of the city.

The design begins with a careful reading of the surrounding urban fabric. Existing streets, pedestrian flows, property boundaries, and visual connections were analyzed and projected onto the site to generate an organizational framework. Instead of imposing a rigid geometry, the building emerges from the intersections of these urban lines, allowing the architecture to become an extension of the city itself.
