Project Renovation of Historic Blocks with a Tram Depot
Best Restoration or Reconstruction Project by Student
About the project (provided by the applicant) The project includes the restoration and adaptive reuse of two buildings (the former M. Pietinen furniture factory and the mechanical workshop) as well as the overall development concept for the area. The blocks are located opposite the Hermitage-Vyborg Museum.
As the city grew, the former industrial area, once on the outskirts, became part of the historic center. Some buildings were adapted as warehouses, while others are empty and deteriorating. The historic appearance is completely lost, the territory is unused, and the area is degrading. It lacks life and is not used according to its historical purpose or modern functions.
The project proposes restoration and preservation of the buildings and their adaptation into a public-crafts center and tram museum.
