Project
Orthodox Church in Deputy Square Garden

Nomination
Best Constructed Public Building or Facility

About the project
The new church was built to look like the old Annunciation Cathedral built in Tumen in 1700 on the order of Peter the Great. The old cathedral was unique in terms of exterior and interior design and was worthily regarded as the pearl of Siberia. Its walls were ornamented with colorful ceramic tiles, and ceramic vines climbed its corners. The old church, patterned after the Dormitory Church at Moscow’s Pokrovka, was exploded in 1932.
