About the project (provided by the applicant)
Seoul Metropolitan Library is a place where the boundaries of the present and physical location dissolve. The main goals of the design are creating a sense of fluidity, Visual openness, easy access for everyone, and suitable spatial organization. Here, by inducing a sense of suspense and fluidity by connecting open, semi-open and close spaces , seamlessly integrated into a flexible and collaborative space. The library has evolved to meet the changing needs and expectations of people of all ages by creating a welcoming environment. Also, the similar functions are placed next to each other and simultaneously spaces are separated based on noise levels. The cone-shaped structure provides spatial connections, natural light, and at the highest floor, offers a 360-degree view cafe providing a space for reading and relaxation. The use of hybrid structures is critical along with movable wooden louvers cover the facade, allowing for natural light control.
