This is a renovation and preservation project of 19th-century wooden architecture, where a historic log structure is seamlessly integrated with a contemporary architectural volume. The architects retained the authentic layout and carved ornamentation of the original building, eschewing pseudo-historical pastiche in favor of an honest dialogue between eras. The minimalist new timber extension accentuates the authenticity of the primary facade, forging a cohesive ensemble perfectly embedded into the historic cityscape with its churches and gardens.
The interior space reinterprets the traditions of a Russian estate through the lens of minimalism and artisanal craftsmanship. The interiors are enriched with handcrafted details: bespoke ceramic tiles, tiling featuring solar motifs, and solid wood furniture created by Russian artisans. The focal point is the lower ground floor housing the kitchen, which has been transformed into a communal space for breakfasts and cultural events. This project demonstrates how a mindful approach to heritage combined with contemporary design can establish a new standard of hospitality.
