Project
Monument to Fallen Fishermen

About the project (provided by the applicant)
The Monument to Fallen Fishermen was erected on the site of a commemorative stone that previously stood in the center of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, at the intersection of Leningradskaya Street and the staircase leading to Klyuchevskaya Street, in close proximity to the main building of the Oceanrybflot company.

The 5.4-meter-high monument is visually divided into two parts a black granite pedestal featuring an epitaph (square in plan, 1.4×1.4 m, and 1.2 m high) and a sculptural composition crowning it, standing 4.2 meters tall, made of polished stainless steel—a pair of fish and three seagulls. The fish, representing pollock, the cornerstone of the company’s fishing industry, are set against a stylized water surface made of stainless steel atop a granite parallelepiped. The seagulls depict different moments—one catching fish and a pair soaring into the sky—symbolizing the demanding and perilous labor of fishermen.

The monument is part of the development concept for the Oceanrybflot company’s premises, which includes the creation of a corporate museum, the improvement of the surrounding area, and the final touch—a memorial.
