Project
Multi-Level Complex on Public Garage

Nomination
Best Project of Comfort Class Residential Estate

About the project
studioMilou’s Gangil public housing and bus terminal in Seoul creates a low-rise, extensively landscaped alternative to the city’s typical high-rise social housing complexes. The design creates a unified space wherein residents, surrounding communities, commuters and garage employees co-exist within integrated spaces; from the inter-generational units looking over seasonal gardens, to the elegant bus terminal whose high and vaulted roof design can alternate as a space for community events.
The living spaces are oriented to encourage socialization within gardens and patios, some connecting the garage with the ground floor garden, making daily work of staffs in the garage a beautiful experience in itself. An expansive garden, open to the general public, offers relief from the day-to-day pressures and noise of urban life, in all seasons. Two large water features, including spectacular waterfalls, absorb surrounding noises of traffic and convert into public ice-skating rings, in winter.
