About the project
Part of the cultural heritage site ‘Fortress Walls and Towers’ dating back to the 16th-18th century, the Gromovaya Tower is one of the remaining dioctahedral towers of the Smolensk Fortress wall.
The restoration works included foundation reinforcement, restoration of the white stone and brick masonry, repair and renovation of the metal grids, the roof, and the framework. They also restored the interiors with all the decorations of the walls and domes, the stairs and stairwells, the floors, the ceilings, the window and door openings, replaced the power mains and lighting fittings, along with the heating, ventilation, and fire alarm facilities, added lightning protection and an accessible entrance for the disabled.
