Project
Historic environment regeneration

About the project
The St John Chrysostom Cathedral was an essential piece of the lost urban composition of District 2 in Yaroslavl. The first thing the designer suggests is preserving the archaeological excavation site in a glass cage. Its walls will be used to project a ghost of the cathedral, transparent and light. This will reduce the effect the new facilities have on the historic environment.
The district will be used to arrange a landscaped park based on the reconsidered original layouts. Using pavements and podiums, the architect locates here the footprints of the buildings, which are 2 centuries old. In fact, this is a hi-tech ode to memories of the past.
