Category Best Project of Public Building or Facility
About the project (provided by the applicant) The IF Tower is developed as a vertical city in a consolidated area of Quito. It is located on a lot in the former financial center, which had remained vacant for decades. This allowed the building to connect through a large public space at the front, leading to a medium-sized park, and to create an extensive pedestrian circuit that crosses the entire neighborhood and connects with the northern part of the city.
The tower is a 25-story volume with a 5-story extended base that houses all the public and communal areas donated to the city as part of the urban strategy for its integration. The translucent envelope acts as a solar filter, reducing the impact on the facade and controlling privacy towards work areas both during the day and at night by varying the pattern of perforations based on a computerized climate analysis. The structure itself functions as part of the envelope, unifying the volume and giving it a sense of lightness.
An architect and urban planner from the Central University of Ecuador, he specialized in Architectural and Urban Design at the Polytechnic of Milan, Italy, in 2005.
