INDIACCELERON — Particle accelerator facility and research center

Category
Best Project of Building or Facility by Student

About the project (provided by the applicant)
My architectural thesis project is the design of a Particle Accelerator Facility and Research Center at the Indian Institute of Science (IISC) in Challekere, Karnataka. Proposed by the Indian Department of Energy, the facility integrates public educational spaces and private research areas.

The public sector includes a Museum of the Universe, Big Bang and Black Hole galleries, hands-on labs, and a planetarium, offering visitors immersive educational experiences about the universe and particle physics. The private sector features secure research laboratories, collaboration spaces, and data analysis centers, providing scientists with advanced tools for groundbreaking research.

A key challenge was separating public and private circulations. This was achieved through distinct pathways and controlled access points, ensuring security and confidentiality for researchers while maintaining an intuitive flow for visitors.
