The project site is situated in Kaliningrad, on the central square at the intersection of Leninsky Avenue and Shevchenko Street. The area can be divided into three primary zones: the archaeological excavations of a medieval castle along with its protective canopy, a regional history museum, and a complex of outdoor grounds featuring temporary structures for historical reenactments of knightly tournaments.
A translucent canopy occupies nearly half of the plot, a design decision dictated not only by the footprint of the excavated medieval fortification but also by a distinct narrowing of the site along the east-west axis. Despite this factor, the museum building serves as the principal focal point of the entire composition. Its silhouette effortlessly evokes an analogy with the stepped gables characteristic of medieval European dwellings.
