About the project
Boris Milgram’s Katerina Izmailova is based on the well-known novella by Nikolay Leskov (1864) – Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District, a sinister story of Shakespeare-like ardency and the first literary female serial killer.
A rich merchant’s wife Katerina is yawning her life away. Her husband Zinovy can’t have children and her father-in-law Boris can’t help but remind Katerina that she should have a child. Katerina starts an affair with clerk Sergey, but is threatened by her father-in-law and murders for the first time.
