Heaven land of silent art
Architecture of Rebirth: Healing Trauma in Kobani.
Emerging from war and forced displacement in Kobani, this project redefines architecture as a philosophical vessel that transforms PTSD into recovery and rebirth. Deeply rooted in Mesopotamian heritage and Kurdish mythology—specifically the myth of Shahmaran and the Peacock—the spatial narrative explores dualities of earth and sky, mortality and resurrection. Just as the serpent sheds its skin and the peacock renews its plumage, the space invites human self-renewal.
Neurologically, trauma locks patients in chronic sympathetic hypervigilance (fight-or-flight). This architecture directly activates the Parasympathetic Nervous System via organic grounding and earthing methods. By facilitating raw engagement with soil, fire, water, and air, the system resets circadian rhythms, restores biological equilibrium, and converts spatial interaction into deep neurological healing.

About the Applicant
I'm Bayan Maslem, my nickname is Fernando Kurdish, originally from Kobani. I graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at AUST University in July 2026. I won the Golden Certificate at the 2025 Golden Trezzini Awards: El-Umayyad Tower category of best project for a building or facility by a student, Malaz El-Sahraa category of best project for a public space by a student. In addition, I am a writer and researcher with the Twenty Two Architectural Group and a 3D artist.
