Project
Beautification of Kuchugury Beach in Khvalynsk

Nomination
Best Student’s Project of Public Space

About the Project
Today, Khvalynsk is cut off from Volga with a protection dam, and the only connection point between the city and the river is the beach. It’s quite deteriorated, but it should become a place of comfort.

The project is oriented on evolution of the viewer. The authors got wise to this method from Petrov-Vodkin and from 101 Architectural Compositions by Yakov Chernikhov, and created an image for the renewed beach. The semi-sphere of the Sosnovy Ostrov Restaurant and the looks of the entrance group are also taken from Chernkikov’s compositions.

Lettering over the entrance group features the font by Sergey Chekhonin, Russian graphic artist. The same font is used for buoys to emphasize the structure and shape of the beach.

The swings are design to reflect the spirit of Avant-Garde.

The pier is a walking and a sight-seeing zone, and also works as a water breaker.

Location
Saratov Region, Khvalynsk, Kuchugury Street.
