Exhausted by hunger, cold, and inhuman living conditions, Leningrad musicians found the strength to rehearse and perform Dmitry Shostakovich’s 7th Symphony, which a stunned world listened to live. Meanwhile, the skies of Leningrad were guarded by Soviet pilots and anti-aircraft batteries; not a single shell fell on the besieged city during the concert. These events inspired the play "Victory Day Amidst War" by Inga Garuchava and Petr Khotyanovsky. It is a story about the resilience and fortitude of artists capable of overcoming the most unimaginable hardships.
Alongside the actors of the Tomsk Drama Theater, the production features musicians from the Tomsk State Philharmonic Orchestra, offering audiences a powerful synthesis of theatrical art and live performance of great music. The project received support from the first grant competition of 2025 by the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives.
