The architectural lighting of the Nikolo-Bogoyavlensky Naval Cathedral ensemble, including its four-tiered bell tower, has transformed the evening silhouette of one of Saint Petersburg's most romantic squares. This masterpiece of Elizabethan Baroque, erected between 1753 and 1762 based on the design of architect Savva Chevakinsky, has received a new luminous interpretation.
The project utilizes advanced LED fixtures: a variety of optics enables precise work with every architectural element, while anti-glare shields and cowls ensure visual comfort. Warm color temperature (CCT) lighting highlights the tiered facades, columns, and stucco moldings, while accent beams are directed toward the five gilded domes. The core concept relies on the contrast between uniform facade illumination and precise detail accentuation: the cathedral preserves its solemn, contemplative atmosphere while remaining the primary architectural dominant and semantic center of Nikolskaya Square.
The project was implemented as part of the collaboration between Gazprom PJSC and the Government of Saint Petersburg, with the participation of the "Nevsky Svet" association.
