Living Continuum is a two-storey design studio and secondary residence in Malabe, Sri Lanka, built on a compact 7.5-perch site. Designed as the architect’s home and workspace, it promotes a flexible environment for living, working, thinking, and gathering. The construction process relied on limited drawings and hands-on methods, allowing upcycled materials and imperfections without compromising integrity. Four courtyards and open voids introduce greenery, light, and air into the house. The project emphasizes the sustainable character during the entire process through its simplicity and robustness. The architecture forms a robust and adaptable framework using a reinforced concrete and steel hybrid structural system, enabling durability and flexibility while accommodating unskilled and semi-skilled labor and waste materials that has given a second life while generating an allied spatial experience for living, working and thinking.
