About the project
The Riau Islands are the third gateway for foreign tourists after Jakarta and Bali. The Covid-19 pandemic caused a decline in Bintan tourist visitors of up to 90% in 2020, which had a major impact on Bintan's tourism economy. Gonggong is an endemic biota that lives in the sea waters of the Riau Islands and is a local culinary specialty. Because it is often consumed, shell waste from these sea snails has become an issue for the environment. Local residents responded by processing the shell waste into handicrafts that have high selling value and attract the interest of foreign markets such as Singapore and Malaysia. However, this craft is not widely known by tourists because there are no souvenir centers supported by the government, only MSMEs. So a souvenir center that supports existing MSMEs is very necessary, especially one that is located close to the port which is the gateway for tourists entering and leaving.
